Product Review: Equi-Tape

Equi-Tape was recommended to me by my Equine Osteopath. Equi-Tape is the Equine version of KT tape. KT Tape is a therapeutic tape designed to be applied to the human body to ease pain and provide support during athletic activities.

It is rare that I run into products that are the be-all end-all and I wouldn’t claim this to be one. However, it is one of those items I do end up using very regularly, for a variety of reasons. It has become a go-to item. From my horse trailer to the barn, Equi-Tape has found its way to almost daily use during the heavy riding season.

When and why I use it:

  • Provides extra support when coming back from injuries or supporting past injuries

  • Aids in awareness to certain body parts for the horse while developing training and fitness

  • Adds support to weaker areas of the body or where a horse may be hesitant to use  EX. Sacrum Joint, Gluteal muscles

  • Adds support to tendons and ligaments in the lower limbs

What I have found in the use of Equi-Tape:

  • Durability: Holds placement for days or sometimes weeks at a time. However, during winter with heavier coats of hair, it does have a harder time staying in place.

  • For taping lower limbs, I always apply an exercise bandage or sport boot over top of tape for competition

  • Brand Specific: Equi-Tape is found to be stronger/stickier than the KT tape. Opt for this horse specific product as opposed to purchasing the human version

  • Youtube has a good selection of “How-to” videos for taping up all sorts of muscles and joints

Happy riding!

DON’T MISS THE TAPING METHODS…

Equi-Tape: The KT Tape for Horses

Where I feel the EQ tape has immense value is to complement the day-to-day training and competition requirements. Relying solely on one particular item or product is not realistic when building up a training program.

Instead, I believe it best to find an array of products that fit into your routine and requirements for your horses. Using Equi-Tape as a product to aid as a preventive tool and complement your methods and demands is the key – Equi-Tape does that for my horses!
